While both present the appearance of bumps and, in some cases, discharge, it’s important to know the differences between these two conditions to make sure you’re able to properly address them.

Pearly penile papules get their name from the appearance of small, light bumps that look very much like a pearl necklace. This condition is very common, especially among men in their twenties and thirties. Almost 30 percent of men, both circumcised and uncircumcised, can develop these bumps. However, uncircumcised men report a high occurrence of the papules. This condition can come and go throughout a person’s lifetime, and the bumps are completely harmless. If you want to remove these bumps, cosmetic procedures that use liquid nitrogen or lasers can take care of the problem.

As described on WebMD, candidiasis is a fungal infection that causes red rashes, swelling, scaling, and discharge. This is an occurrence of the male yeast infection. It can occur on any area of the body, especially areas prone to irritation due to excess moisture. The most common problems occur around the male or female genital areas. To treat the condition, men can use topical antifungal creams or a prescribed oral medication. To prevent recurrence, men should maintain good personal hygiene and avoid fatty, sugary foods.

If you show symptoms of these conditions, it’s important to speak to your doctor. Some sexually transmitted diseases in their primary stages present symptoms similar to those common with both of these conditions.

Can Penile Papules Spread? http://pearlypenilepapules.net/can-papules-spread http://pearlypenilepapules.net/can-papules-spread#comments Mon, 08 Apr 2013 14:42:32 +0000 http://pearlypenilepapules.net/?p=563 If a man wakes up one day and notices little white bumps on his penis, it’s likely he will freak out. Relax. Take a deep breath, and read on. These little white bumps – typically forming in uniquely defined rows along the penis head – may be nothing more than Pearly Penile Papules. They are not an STD, and are not something a man should freak out about. Yes, their presence may be daunting, but they are not signs of some worse illness and better yet they are not contagious. Unlike an STD they do not spread to partners.

In fact, these little white gland-like bumps that form in a ring around the rim of penis’s head are fairly common. Scores of men in their 20s and 30s have experience this phenomenon and lived to tell about it. They are not genital warts like many first believe, and have no side effects

Experts aren’t completely sure what causes these cauliflower-like growths to occur. But since they have not harmful consequences many medical experts consider them a normal skin variation and chose to let them run their course. It’s believed they will gradually fade on their own. However, while they can’t be spread to sexual partners, they can spread within your own body. While there are reports of these bumps appearing on other areas of the body, generally they tend to remain in the general area they first appeared.

Sebaceous Glands and Penile Papules http://pearlypenilepapules.net/sebaceous-glands http://pearlypenilepapules.net/sebaceous-glands#comments Fri, 22 Mar 2013 14:32:59 +0000 http://pearlypenilepapules.net/?p=554 Any little difference in the appearance of your penis can cause alarm. That is why so many men freak out when little white bumps appear on their sensitive areas. In many cases these tiny protrusions are nothing more than Pearly Penile Papules, a naturally occurring skin variation that to date shows no signs of health concerns or the ability to be transmitted.

In fact, researchers have been studying these protrusions as far back as the 1960s when they started to discover their origins. In the 40 years since then we have learned a lot about the condition. Some clinical studies, for example show that Pearly Penile Papules, also known as PPP, occur more commonly in uncircumcised men. In the past, the cause of PPP was thought to be an accumulation of smegma in uncircumcised men. This is because the sebaceous gland is a microscopic gland in the skin that secretes an oily and waxy matter called sebum that lubricates and waterproofs the skin and hair. Sometimes these glands can become infected, especially in warm, enclosed areas similar to certain areas of the penis found on uncircumcised men. This of course has proven to be untrue, but some research indicates that sebaceous gland infection may still be the cause of PPP.

Furthermore, diagnosis confirmation can be obtained by putting a biopsy specimen through rigorous histologic and pathologic analysis. But given their non-cancerous nature, no staging system exists.

In some respects, PPP studies have dwindled once they were proven to be non-harmful skin variations. Most medical advances come from the coffers of well-funded research facilities. Since PPP is not considered harmful, medical research money typically is spent elsewhere. STDs, cancer, AIDS and other more deadly diseases or infections take the majority of the share of medical research funds. This may be why no known topical medication can treat PPP. Some surgical methods can, however, remove the bumps.

5 Tips For A Healthier Penis http://pearlypenilepapules.net/2013/02/5-tips-for-a-healthier-penis/ http://pearlypenilepapules.net/2013/02/5-tips-for-a-healthier-penis/#comments Wed, 27 Feb 2013 18:33:51 +0000 http://pearlypenilepapules.net/?p=541 The penis, in its simplest form, is nothing more than a muscle. And like all of the body’s muscles, the more they are worked out, the healthier and stronger they become. Not only will a maintaining a healthy penis add to a man’s overall health, it may also supply more stamina underneath the sheets. Furthermore, medical experts have long thought testosterone was produced by the testes and adrenal glands. But a fairly new study published by Brown University, suggests penile tissue may also produce testosterone, the male hormone that makes men, well… men.

Testosterone is responsible for the normal growth and development of the male sex organs, the sex drive, and other sexual characteristics. But starting around age 30, men discover they aren’t the same young stud of yesteryears. This is because at age 30 men’s testosterone production can start to level off, or even decline, which can cause a decrease in sperm production and a loss of energetic, youthful enthusiasm for all things manly. The couch, a six-pack of beer and a flat screen TV often start to sound better than a night out with the fellas.

As a man, it’s important to maintain the health of one’s penis, not only to help improve testosterone flow, but also to satisfy their sexual partners. Not sure how to do it? Have no fear. These five tips will help pave the way for a healthier, stronger penis.

1. Eat Better.
Don’t let age snatch away the penis’ properties. A fundamental change in diet can not only help your penis and testes produce the same amount of testosterone after age 30, but it may also increase testosterone production. A fundamental change in eating habits doesn’t mean switching to veggie burgers at a cookout. That would mean taking away the man card. No, eating better simply means that stuffing cheeseburgers away like a professional eating champion has to stop. In fact, those with high blood sugar levels, which can lead to diabetes, are more likely to develop impotency. More than 50 percent of all men with diabetes are impotent. Diabetes also slows down the body’s natural transmission of stimuli along nerves in the body. In other words, the penis becomes numb. Is a daily dose of candy bars and soda worth a numb penis? The answer is clear.

2. Hit the Hay After a Nice Lay.
A running joke among men and their sexual partners is the “grunt and pass out” move, a common occurrence in which men orgasm and then fall asleep immediately afterwards. But now, those same men may have a medical excuse for their caveman behavior. According to Dr. Irwin Goldstein, Managing Director of San Diego Sexual Medicine Center at Alvarado Hospital, a man’s penis needs as much shut eye as it can get. Rest is important because every night while men sleep, their penis is wide awake and typically standing at full attention, meaning that yes, they have three-to five-hour long erection each night. This is not just the body’s parlor trick to please (or annoy) a man’s bedmate. It is a physiological tool that keeps oxygenated blood flowing through the penis.

Remember, the penis is essentially a muscle, and like other muscles, the more blood flow that occurs, the stronger it becomes. Essentially, this means that over time, the more a man sleeps, the stronger his penis becomes which theoretically helps produce stronger erections as the years wear on. The next time a bedmate complains about their partner passing out after sex, men can now say they are simply following the doctor’s orders. Take it a step further and a man may even consider telling his partner that they are sleeping not for selfish reasons, but to maintain a healthy sex life in years to come. Whether a girlfriend or wife will buy the argument is a different story.

3. Put it out.
Smoking is not just bad for the lungs; it’s bad for the penis too. Smoking constricts blood vessels and can lead to plaque buildup that ultimately diminishes blood flow to the penis. With no blood flow, there is no erection. With no erection, there is no action. Smash the butt to maintain looking at their partner’s butt.

4. Beware of hard objects.
By some estimates, more than a third of impotent men have a history of penile trauma, meaning that at some point in their lives they rammed their erect penis somewhere they shouldn’t’ have. Just one misplaced thrust can cause erectile chambers to rupture, tear or snap. As these chambers heal, they lose their elasticity, which can cause pain and eventually impotence.

5. Walk It Off and Exercise.
It’s a no brainer. Everyone knows the more they work out, the better off their muscles are. Yet, studies indicate proof that a man who walks just two miles a day is half as likely to have erection problems as those who don’t. Some suggest men should also take their exercise routine a step further by clinching and tightening their pelvic muscles several times a day. Essentially, this means a man is working out his penis. Women do it all the time. It’s called kegels. Men may simply want to call it mangels. This may benefit urinary tract infections, improved bladder control and ultimately better control of orgasms.

Incorporate these tips to maintain a healthy penis, control testosterone levels and feel good about the manhood. Start now.

3 Questions to Ask Before PPP Treatment http://pearlypenilepapules.net/2013/02/3-questions-to-ask-before-ppp-treatment/ http://pearlypenilepapules.net/2013/02/3-questions-to-ask-before-ppp-treatment/#comments Mon, 18 Feb 2013 18:32:13 +0000 http://pearlypenilepapules.net/?p=537 When men notice a bump on the rim of their penis’s head, it’s as if the entire world has stopped on its axis. Crazy thoughts enter their mind. They wonder if its cancer or an STD. They wonder if it will go away. They even wonder how to explain it to a girlfriend, wife or partner. They need answers and they need them now.

Little bumps on the rim of a man’s penis are likely pearly penile papules, tiny benign protrusions also known as PPP that are fairly common for men in their 20s and 30s. Typically flesh colored and often appearing in organized rows, PPP are naturally occurring and offer no harmful side effects other than increased sensitivity. They are also treatable. For peace of mind ask your doctor these three questions.

How is PPP treated?
Unfortunately, no home remedies are available to remove PPP. When PPP was first discovered, doctors tried everything from circumcision to spreading toothpaste over the infected area. Then carbon dioxide laser treatments became available. These treatments essentially burn away the bumps with little to no pain and still widely used today. Because radiofrequency uses radio waves and not electricity to remove the bumps, the surrounding tissue suffers less damage, while offering a more precise and complete removal. It’s effective, safe, and comes with no scarring or bleeding.

What is the cost?
Costs vary depending on your doctor and whether or not insurance will cover the treatment. Because PPP cannot be spread and is not considered dangerous or life-threatening, some insurance companies view it as an elective procedure and won’t cover the cost. Other health companies view it as a way to reduce mental stress and anguish that could cause more costly treatments later. Therefore they foot the bill. Each doctor charges differently based on their experience and practice, staff, equipment, etc.

What are the side effects of treatment?
Patients can immediately go back to work or school, but for the first several days patients will suffer minor side effects such as redness, swelling, mild stinging, discomfort, scabbing, or crusting. Within two weeks the treatment should be completely healed.

‘Pumping Party’ Penis Injection Turns Deadly http://pearlypenilepapules.net/pumping-party-penis-injection http://pearlypenilepapules.net/pumping-party-penis-injection#comments Tue, 22 Jan 2013 21:06:30 +0000 http://pearlypenilepapules.net/?p=529 Take a failing economy, couple it with the meteoric rise in the popularity of cosmetic plastic surgery, and what do you get? A story as disturbing as it is sad.

A New Jersey woman has been charged with reckless manslaughter after an injection of silicone she administered to a man’s penis killed him. They were at a “pumping party,” gatherings where mostly transgender individuals inject silicone into each others bodies to create curves, breasts, hips, and all manner of body modifications. People often prefer these parties to a medical facility because they are much cheaper.

The victim’s name was Justin Street, and he was 22 years old at the time of his death.

These stories highlight the widespread abuse of injectable cosmetic materials, such as Botox. Because of their popularity, they have become more attainable and are readily available on the black market. Stories about Botox parties, which are usually hosted by a medical professional, have lead people to feel comfortable with injections outside of medical facilities.

However, Kastia Riviera, 34, who is accused of injecting the fatal dose, was only posing as an accredited cosmetic plastic surgeon. Her misuse of the drug, investigators believe, caused the silicone embolism that killed Street the following day. While serious medical complications from silicone injections are rare, even when performed by amateurs, sometimes what is being injected is often not safe. Undesirable materials such as industrial silicone, castrol oil, and other toxic jellies have been sold as cosmetic silicone and caused significant complications for their recipients.

If you’re interested in having a non-invasive injectable procedure done, it’s not only imperative that you see a medical professional: it’s also necessary that you see a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Are Pearly Penile Papules Contagious? http://pearlypenilepapules.net/2012/11/are-pearly-penile-papules-contagious/ http://pearlypenilepapules.net/2012/11/are-pearly-penile-papules-contagious/#comments Fri, 02 Nov 2012 20:01:50 +0000 http://pearlypenilepapules.net/?p=512 Firstly, and most importantly: what are pearly penile papules (PPP)? Medically speaking, they are referred to as hirsuties papillaris genitalis. Besides sharing a visual similarity to some STD’s, most notably HPV genital warts, PPP are a normal variation of the human anatomy and are not communicable to partners through intercourse, oral sex, or transfusion of blood.

These white “pearly” bumps generally form around the rim of the penis. The size and shape of PPP varies greatly, and depending on the frequency of sexual activity, these papules can grow aggravated and appear all the more similar to HPV warts. Although they pose no risk to a male’s health or sex life, some men or their partners may consider them aesthetically displeasing or distracting.

A host of “at home” remedies to remove these bumps abound on the internet, though doctors advise against them, as the risk of removing them far outweighs the danger of PPP itself.

If you’re concerned about PPP or want a positive diagnosis, go see a doctor. If you or your partner are bothered by the visual appearance of PPP or their frequent recurrence, there are multiple removal techniques performed by dermatologists. These techniques range from freezing to laser removal, both of which take only a few minutes and are generally painless.

Though PPP usually subside within a few days, treatment or no, if they continue to occur, removal may not be a bad idea. For one thing, because of their visual similarity to HPV genital warts, men who have experienced PPP in the past might contract HPV genital warts, mistake them for PPP, and spread the virus.

As always, it’s important to consult a doctor before making any decisions. If you think you have PPP, get checked by a doctor before being sexually active.
